Devices for Moving Loads
The following is the most commonly used handling equipment in the ISASTUR Group:
- Elevation: Overhead cranes, hoists.
- Elevation and transport: Forklifts.
- Traction: Winches, cable hoists, pull-lifts, etc.
- Auxiliary elements: Cables, ropes, hooks, chains, slings, etc.
1. HAZARDS AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN THE HANDLING OF OVERHEAD CRANES AND HOISTS
The most common hazards in lifting operations with these devices are the following:
- Loads falling.
- Equipment coming loose from its anchoring point.
- Failure or ropes, cables, chains.
- Persons falling onto a different level.
- Becoming trapped.
- Overstrain.
- Handling of strip banding, faulty cables, splintered pallets.
- Direct or indirect electrical Contacts.
- Noise.
Preventive measures:
- Do not exceed the device’s maximum load.
- Mandatory and/or periodic maintenance.
- Keep transit areas free of obstacles.
- Use of planned accesses.
- Do not climb up on the load to transport it.
- When working on overhead cranes, lock the controls to avoid untimely movements.
- Do not transport loads over people.
- Do not pass under hoisted loads.
- Do not leave loads hanging.
- Do not lower the hook too much (avoid it resting on the ground).
- Always wear safety boots with reinforced toecaps, gloves for mechanical work and safety goggles.
