3. HAZARDS AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN THE HANDLING OF WINCHES, CABLE HOISTS AND PULL-LIFTS
The most common hazards in operations with these devices are the following:
- Failure of the cable and its consequences.
- Getting trapped.
Preventive measures:
- Working knowledge on the part of operators.
- Periodic checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, noting down the operations carried out in the maintenance book.
- Before commencing work, check the state of hooks, cables and other auxiliary elements.
- Check that they are secured to a fixed point.
- Do not exceed the maximum load.
- Do not use in combined manoeuvres.
- Do not situate in acute angles due to the possibility of failure of the pulleys and recoil.
- Avoid displacing cables over sharp edges.
- Avoid knocks during loading, unloading and transport.
