Risk Assessment: Construction and Civil Works

Workers Affected by Works Hazards

RISK

310 Exposure to chemical pollutants.

RISK FACTORS

  • Chemical products used in our activities when being handled (paint, solvents, concrete, aluminothermal welding cartridges, etc.).
  • Chemical products present at our clients’ facilities. Products used in their processes ( HCl,  H2SO4, etc.).

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Keep any products being used well sealed and in appropriate vessels.
  • Keep containers in good condition.
  • Employ the indispensable amount of the product.
  • Information and training. Together with the Safety Plan for each job, our workers are to be given the technical safety sheets of the products they are going to handle.
  • Comply with each Client’s own Safety Regulations (prior information to our workers of the data provided by our clients) in accordance with the products used in their processes.

Personal protection

  • Suitable clothing (special for acids, bases, etc.), gloves providing protection against chemicals and safety goggles.

Procedures to apply

  • ITP06.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Comply with the Client’s Safety Regulations and use PPE in signposted areas.
  • A work environment is considered noisy when the level of noise is equal to or greater than 80 dBA. Workers who need to use ear protection in these environments (those who are especially sensitive) are to use earmuff-type ear protectors attached to their safety helmet instead of earplugs.
  • Reduce exposure to noise by:
    • Limiting exposure time.
    • Appropriate work scheduling.
  • Information/training for workers exposed to the risk.

Personal protection
