Risk Assessment: Electromechanical Erection

Workers Affected by Works Hazards

RISK

--- Flooding.

RISK FACTORS

  • When working in pits and trenches to install wiring or cables.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Anticipate the installation of pumps for evacuating the water if necessary.
  • Evacuate if needs be.

Personal protection

  • Rubber boots and waterproof clothing.

RISK

150 Thermal Contacts. Burns.

RISK FACTORS

  • When working with oxyacetylene equipment, electric welding equipment or aluminothermal welding equipment.
  • When handling hot materials.
  • Burns resulting from an electric arc.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Maintaining equipment in a good state of repair:
    • OXYACETYLENE. Torch, nozzle, pressure gauge, hose, reducing valve and non-return valves.
    • ELECTRIC ARC. Cables, plugs, electrode holder and earth clamp.
    • CADWELL. Tongs, moulds, etc.
If possible, several moulds are to be used when diverse welds have to be carried out in succession. Alternating the use of these avoids handling very hot moulds.
  • To avoid electric arcs, all the precautions and procedures mentioned in the measures listed for preventing an electric hazard are to be applied.

Personal protection

  • Leather gloves or mittens and apron or jacket. Gloves for aluminothermal welding (to be requested from the store when this type of work needs to be done).
  • Welding screen.
  • Leather leggings or sleeves (or long gloves).
  • Safety footwear.
  • Jobs with an electrical hazard: those protections indicated for controlling the risk of electrical Contact.
  • In disconnection, reconnection or live work operations, the workers must wear fireproof clothing.

Procedures to apply

  • ITL19.
  • ITP06.
  • PC0526.
