Revised Edition 2010

Risk Assessment: Electromechanical Erection

Workers Affected by Works Hazards

RISK

100 Projected particles.

RISK FACTORS

  • When using tools (radial cutters/grinders, drills, saws, drill presses, etc.).
  • Dust in facilities: in the atmosphere, inside our clients’ facilities, when moving dusty equipment (switchboards, etc.).
  • Proximity to civil works or other sources of projected particles.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Rules for acting

  • Training in the handling of tools and information on their inherent hazards.
  • Annulling the guard elements on the tools themselves is strictly forbidden.
  • Weld seams are not to be chipped without eye protection (electric welding).
  • Install barriers to avoid projected particles when working with radial cutters/grinders.
  • Clean the dust from work areas (use vacuum cleaners) before starting work; for example, vacuum the dust that there might be on an electric cabinet before moving it.
  • Suitably adjust safety goggles. Ask for other goggles when they are worn and do not fit well.

Personal protection

  • Helmet, safety goggles.
  • Visor over safety goggles and welder’s apron when carrying out cutting work or machining on fixed workstations.
  • Visor over safety goggles and when using a radial cutter/grinder. Depending on the posture you have to adopt to use the tool, it may be necessary to used diver-type goggles under the visor.
  • In places where there is a lot of ambient dust (cement works, etc.), use diver-type safety goggles.
  • Welding: visor, welder’s gloves, leggings, sleeves and apron or jacket. If it should be absolutely necessary to weld above shoulder height, use a welder’s hood.

Procedures to apply

  • ITP06.
  • ITL19.
  • Welding: PC0526.
