2. Extinguishing Agents

2.1. Instructions for using extinguishers

EXTINGUISHING AGENT POLYVALENT DRY CHEMICAL (ABC)
CLASS OF FIRE CLASS A: SOLIDS WITH EMBERS
CLASS B: LIQUIDS
Instructions for Use Take the extinguisher from its place
Identify its suitability (Extinguishing agent / Class of fire)
Always approach the fire with your back to the wind or draught
Approach the fire with caution to avoid the blowback effect of the flames (2-4 m)
Keep the extinguisher in a vertical position or place it on the floor
Remove the safety pin
Activate according to the type of extinguisher
PERMANENT PRESSURE
  • Press the lever aiming the discharged extinguishing agent at the base of the flames
GENERATED PRESSURE
  • Press the  puncture pin on the attached cartridge
  • Press the lever aiming the discharged extinguishing agent at the base of the flames
Sweep the flame from side to side
Put out vertical fires from the bottom up
10º Attack fires where obstacles are present with two extinguishers, one from each side
11º NEVER abandon the task WITH YOUR BACK TO THE FIRE

CLASS B: LIQUIDS
Precautions Use only in the first stage of a fire
Make sure to use a suitable extinguishing agent
Do not turn the extinguisher upside down in any case whatsoever
NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON THE FIRE even when its appears to be extinguished
Bear in mind the duration (approximately 20 seconds) and scope of the extinguisher
Bear in mind that dry chemical extinguishers, when discharged, may cause problems of visibility and evacuation, as well as damaging electrical equipment (computers, air conditioning, etc.)
Try to keep doors closed so as to avoid explosions caused by brusque contributions of air
Disconnect the power supply whenever possible
