4. Signalling and labelling of hazardous chemical substances and compounds
4.1. Safety information sheets
Not only is it necessary to know the hazard rating of a hazardous chemical substance or compound via its label, but more information on its proper use is needed.
This information is found in the so-called “Safety information sheets”, which must contain the following information:
- Composition of / Information on the components.
- Identification of hazards.
- First-aid instructions.
- Fire-fighting measures.
- Measures to be taken in the case of an accidental spill.
- Handling and storage.
- Controls regarding exposure / Personal protection.
- Physical and chemical properties.
- Stability and reactiveness.
- Toxicological information.
- Ecological information.
- Considerations regarding removal.
- Information regarding transport.
- Other information.
The following is an example of a Safety Information Sheet:

Specific risks:
- Easily inflammable

Cautions:
- Keep out of reach of children
