4. Signalling and labelling of hazardous chemical substances and compounds

4.1. Safety information sheets

Not only is it necessary to know the hazard rating of a hazardous chemical substance or compound via its label, but more information on its proper use is needed.

This information is found in the so-called “Safety information sheets”, which must contain the following information:

Composition of / Information on the components.
Identification of hazards.
First-aid instructions.
Fire-fighting measures.
Measures to be taken in the case of an accidental spill.
Handling and storage.
Controls regarding exposure / Personal protection.
Physical and chemical properties.
Stability and reactiveness.
Toxicological information.
Ecological information.
Considerations regarding removal.
Information regarding transport.
Other information.

The following is an example of a Safety Information Sheet:
