Risk Assessment: Construction and Civil Works
Workers Affected by Works Hazards
RISK
100 Projected particles.
RISK FACTORS
- Using tools (radial cutter/grinder, drill, disc saw, etc.).
- Projected particles and fragments (disc saws, strong winds, wooden splinters, breakage of moving parts).
- Projected particles during earth moving, loading and unloading.
- Projection of drops of concrete into one’s eyes.
- During welding operations (oxy-cutting/electric arc/aluminothermal).
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Rules for acting
- Training in the handling of tools and information on their inherent hazards.
- Prohibition regarding the annulling of the guard elements on the tools themselves.
- Use of a visor to carry out aluminothermal welding operations.
Personal protection
- Helmet, safety goggles.
- Visor over safety goggles when using a radial cutter/grinder.
- Welding: visor, welder’s gloves, leggings, sleeves and apron or jacket. If it should be absolutely necessary to weld above shoulder height, use a welder’s hood.
- Suitably adjust safety goggles. Ask for other goggles when they are worn and do not fit well.
- In places with a great deal of ambient dust (cement works, etc.), use diver-type safety goggles.
Procedures to apply
- ITP06.
- ITL19.
- Welding: PC0526.
