Personal Protection Equipment
6. Choice of PPE
When choosing PPE, the employer should carry out the following actions, as well as consulting with the workers’ representatives or with the workers themselves:
- Analyse and assess the existing hazards that cannot be avoided or sufficiently limited by other means.
- Define the characteristics that the PPE must possess to guarantee its functioning, taking into account the nature and magnitude of the hazards it must protect against, as well as any additional risk factors that the PPE itself may comprise.
- When deciding on which PPE to use, verify and check that it is certified for the hazard in question. This can be known by carefully reading the manufacturer’s instructions that accompany any PPE that is certified.
